New Health Unit report finds adults in the area drink alcohol regularly

A recently released report led by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has found adults in the area drink alcohol often, and usually large amounts. The report is called Let’s Start the Conversation: Alcohol use among adults in our community and the full report can be found here: http://www.myhealthunit.ca/en/partnerandhealthproviderresources/resources/reports__stats/alcohol-report-2017-04-21.pdf

It states one of the reasons for the high rate is in part because people have greater access to alcohol. The report indicates 55 per cent of people between the age of 45 and 64 reported drinking at levels that exceed the Low-Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines, compared to 38 per cent in all of Ontario. That group makes up 32 per cent of the local population and the data on local drinking habits was collected in 2015.
