Former area bishop named by Pope to major undertaking

It’s a huge honour for an auxiliary bishop who has served in the Districts of Nipissing, Sudbury and Algoma.   Pope Francis has named Noel Simard to serve on the Pontifical Academy of Life.   The academy defends and promotes the value of human life and the dignity of the person.   Simard served with the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie from 2008 to 2011.   During this period he was the diocese’s vicar general and was responsible for the French pastoral region of Algoma, Nipissing and Sudbury districts.  He is the current bishop of the Diocese of Valleyfield in Quebec.
