On Street Parking Bylaw changes approved by city council

The on street parking ban for this upcoming winter will have a few tweaks after North Bay city council voted in favour of amending the by-law. The ban will now take effect on November 1st and run until April 15th. Councillor Tanya Vresbosch says the city will also monitor the weather when deciding to send out plows. Vresbosch says if the first snow fall isn’t until December, then they won’t be enforcing the by-law before then.

Other changes include no cars being able to park in Downtown Improvement Area boundaries between 3:00am and 6:30am, on cul-de-sacs between 3:00am and 8:30am or on the street between 3:00am and 7:30am. Vrebosch says she’s glad that council made up its mind, because the city needed to have guidelines to be able to do things like shift changes in the future. She says to be able to do that, they need to give 24-hour notice.

Vrebosch says without being able to see the future and know what the weather is going to be like so they had to have clear timelines. She says lots of notice will be given to residents before the winter of the changes. Vrebosch also added that whenever they get word of the first brush of winter, that’s when they’ll get the word out that the ban is going into effect.
