When council voted in favour of switching to bi-weekly combined meetings, there was always a chance should a councillor miss a meeting more than a month could pass between their attendances. Every city politician is now experiencing just that, after last night’s committee and regular meeting of council was cancelled.
It’s created an unscheduled summer break, as it will have been almost a full month between meetings when council reconvenes on July 25th. The last meeting of council was on June 27th, and since the summer began a couple of committee meetings had already been scrapped due to light agendas. The bi-weekly schedule used to only apply to the summer months of the year anyway, but that changed back in February when council voted to change the schedule and combine meetings.
