Working smoke alarms at home on Gregory Drive help to avoid excessive fire damage

A fire on Gregory Drive early this morning was extinguished by firefighters before anyone inside was hurt. Firefighters are crediting properly functioning smoke alarms awoke the homeowner and alerted him of the danger.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders says the homeowner got his wife and children outside to safety as the fire started, and immediately alerted 911. Saunders added the quick notification to 911 meant fire-crews were on scene quickly and were able to greatly limit the damage caused by the fire. The fire was in the basement of the home.

Firefighters from Stations 1 and 2 were both dispatched to deal with the blaze. They say every aspect of the response worked perfectly, and everyone was safe after the firefighter’s ensured damage from the fire was minimized.
