Swim to Survive taking place this weekend

The City of North Bay is offering a free one-day program from the Lifesaving Society called Swim to Survive this Sunday beginning at 1:00pm and running until 5:00pm at Birchaven Cove. Swim to Survive tests the essentials needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water, which officials view as an important first step to being safe around water.

A release states that swimming is the second most popular activity for kids between the ages of five and twelve, and these are important skills for them to learn. Swim to Survive doesn’t replace swim lessons, it teaches kids how to roll into the water, tread water for one minute and then swim 50 meters. At the end they will receive a certificate stating they completed the Swim to Survive program. Lifejacket use and boat safety registration for this program is not required, people can simply show up and go to the lifeguard chair.
