The Ministry of Transportation wants to be better prepared for the North’s brutal winters. They are adding 42 winter maintenance units in the North, to clear passing lanes. The MTO hopes these units will improve service levels up north. Meanwhile, according the CBC, the MTO recently slapped 600-thousand dollars of fines to four different highway maintenance companies in the north for poor winter road work. The MTO says they will also be amping up their social media to provide motorists with updates on roads and storms.
