Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse moving forward with project to address seniors housing gap

A $3.6-million renovation project at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse will develop 10 additional seniors housing units in the north wing of their building. There are currently 24 units in the east wing that used to be the high school and the boarding school, and these units have a waiting list of about 150 to 200 people. Members came to the decision to move forward with the renovation project following a needs assessment stud.

The plan is to create six two bedrooms and four one-bedroom units, and the design includes an external entrance, with an external elevator to access the area.

General Superior Sister Bonnie MacLellan says preliminary work and drawings have already been done. Sister MacLellan says it’s now a matter of getting approval for the required building permits from the City. Officials hope they can hit the ground running in August, with completion of the project estimated for late 2018 or early 2019.
