Local OPP launching Move Over campaign this long weekend

The North Bay OPP will be leading a Slow Down, Move Over enforcement campaign this Civic Day Long Weekend. With heavy traffic volumes expected throughout the province on highways and roads, police say it’s an important time for drivers to follow this law.

Police, Fire and Ambulance respond to emergency calls daily, and they ask that driver’s do their part to move out of the way when they see lights flashing. If an emergency vehicle is stopped on the side of the highway, the same side of the highway as you’re going, slow down and pass with caution. If the road has two or more lanes, police ask you leave a lane between you and the emergency vehicle when it’s safe to do so. Drivers who don’t slow down and move over could face fines between $400 and $2000 and a possible driver’s licence suspension for up to two years.

The OPP will be also be targeting the Big Four of Distracted Driving, Aggressive Driving, Driving without Seatbelts and Impaired Driving this weekend.
