Gas Tax Fund to inflate infrastructure

Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota announced Tuesday that $5.3 million for municipal needs such as local roads, sports and recreation facilities, and tourism infrastructure will be made available. This year, 19 municipalities, townships, and local services boards in the riding will receive funding through the federal Gas Tax Fund for projects that, according to Rota, will generate economic growth and create jobs to ensure Ontario remains among the best places in the world to live.

Residents will benefit from investments in local infrastructure that will help grow the middle class, create healthy communities for our children and promote sustainable development and long-term prosperity for Canadian families. “Modern and up-to-date community infrastructure helps connect people to jobs and provides access to better community services, attracts new businesses and creates economic growth,” added Rota.

The federal Gas Tax Fund can be invested in various applications, whether to keep roads safe and smooth, to support the public transit system or to improve access to clean drinking water for residents, it has made a difference in communities.“The Government of Canada knows communities are best positioned to identify their specific needs and the federal Gas Tax fund supports them in making those strategic investments,” says Rota.
