A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa, West Nipissing and French River. Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms around North Bay, capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and early this evening. Some of these storms could be severe due to large hail and strong wind. Environment Canada says the large hail can damage property and cause injury, the winds could be strong enough to toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
