Fedeli teams up with Insurance Bureau of Canada to put CO Detectors in local homes

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli has partnered with the Insurance Bureau of Canada to donate carbon monoxide detectors to local residents to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. Fedeli says he’s happy to be donating these lifesaving CO detectors. Carbon monoxide poisoning is easily preventable, and Fedeli says donations like these help raise much-needed awareness of the importance of guarding against carbon monoxide.

IBC contributed 25 carbon monoxide detectors for the food bank in Callander for local distribution. As part of their campaign to raise awareness about the need for carbon monoxide detectors in all homes with a fuel burning appliance or attached garage, IBC has donated 1,000 detectors to fire departments across Ontario so far this year. They’ll be donating an additional 1,500 units over the course of the summer.

Over the last 15 years, 250 Ontarians have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. IBC Ontario Vice-President Kim Donaldson says despite the serious threat of carbon monoxide poisoning, many Canadians do not have CO detectors in their home. Donaldson says events like today help create awareness about the steps Ontarians can take to protect themselves and their families. Ontario law requires that carbon monoxide detectors be installed in all residential dwellings that contain at least one fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or an attached garage.
