Fedeli concerned about new potential power deal between Ontario and Quebec

Nipissing’s MPP says talk of the Wynne Liberals signing another secret power deal with Quebec is more proof they’ve bungled the energy portfolio.  Vic Fedeli says the Auditor General says we already pay the U.S. and Quebec billions of dollars each year to take our surplus power.  He says that’s because we’re producing 30,000 megawatts of power a day but only use up 20,000 megawatts triggering a surplus for us.  The Tory finance critic says we use less power because numerous manufacturing plants have closed throwing thousands of people out of work.  However, Fedeli says the Liberals are ready to strike another deal with Quebec that he believes will cost us a lot. Fedeli says he’s certain we’ll be paying a premium for Quebec’s power but cautions there’s another reason to be worried.  Fedeli believes Ontario will buy the power in the morning and then pay Quebec to take it back at night because we’re again in a surplus situation.   Fedeli says this is ridiculous but adds it looks like this is the direction the Liberals will be taking us.  Fedeli has asked the Financial Accountability Officer to review the power deal Ontario and Quebec signed last fall and if talk pans out that a new deal is also in the works, then he expects the FAO would also review the latest agreement.
