Day two of AMO conference underway

Mayor Al McDonald said he is feeling positive about the first day of the three-day Association of the Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference.

By correspondence, McDonald said that a Monday meeting with the Minister of the Status of Women was one part of the conference that had definitely piqued his interest, considering the issues women in North Bay have faced getting back into the workforce after seeking help.

Other highlights from Monday’s sessions include discussions with representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Energy on the future of West Ferris Arena and talks about the local landfill with the Ministry of the Environment.

Tuesday’s agenda began with a meeting of the Northern Ontario Large Urban Mayors (NOLUM) to discuss what McDonald termed “pan-Northern Ontario opportunities.”

The AMO conference runs until Wednesday in Ottawa and 1,600 delegates are expected to attend.
