Eclipse Monday, are your sunglasses safe enough to view it?

Millions of North Americans will have the opportunity to take in a rare solar eclipse Monday afternoon.

It seems that some fraudsters are putting making a quick buck first over the health of unsuspecting customers.

Randy Vezina, Captain of Fire Prevention & Life Safety Division is warning the public that sunglasses being sold to view the eclipse have to be carefully checked to ensure that the glasses are adequately rated to handle viewing the sun for an extended period of time.

Watching the eclipse with fake sunglasses of handheld viewers can cause permanent damage to the retina. Glasses used to view eclipses must be thousands of times darker than regular sunglasses.
