New dog park recommendation expected

Two sites, one located off Sage Road, and the other at Laurentian Playground on Carruthers Street have been under consideration for several months as potential locations for North Bay’s second off-leash dog park.

After consultation with citizens in public forums, and with the North Bay and District Humane Society, a decision on which site is best suited for a dog park has been made. The findings will be included in a staff report that will be reviewed at Tuesday’s regular meeting of council.

The humane society and city will attempt to mirror what they have termed a successful launch of the original dog park, located at the end of Premier Road near Champlain Park. At that location, there are two areas separating small and large dogs and an age minimum (age 16 and over) for those permitted to handle an animal inside the park.

The land at the original park is a lease from the City for $1 and the park is named for Bruman Construction. The company donated labour and equipment to clear the area for use.
