North Bay to spend record amount on roads

“North Bay has been making progress on roads, says Coun. Derek Shogren, “and we’re going to continue that.”

Shogren pushed for more money, $4 million to be exact, in the 2017 budget to be included for road resurfacing but could not find support around the table for more than $3.5 million.

A budget deliberation agreement was struck, says Shogren, wherein “if the capital projects that we had earmarked funds for, if some of them had a surplus, then we would make up the $500,000 that way.”

Shogren says that at budget time, he wanted to eliminate some of the other projects up for consideration entirely to move more funds to resurfacing.

The budget has now been pushed to approximately $4 million, a record for North Bay.

“If you are objectively looking at it, we have put a lot of money into roads, [the public] is seeing it. It’s never going to be enough. Every day I have someone telling me that a certain road needs fixing,” says Shogren.
