PC leader seeks action in Northern Ontario

Patrick Brown, leader of the Ontario PC party feels that families and workers in Northern Ontario have been let down by the Liberal government of Premier Kathleen Wynne, and the latest news on the Ring of Fire development is just another example to back up his claims.

At the Ontario PC caucus retreat, the message was: “The North matters.”

Brown is calling for regular updates on progress in building roads to the Ring of Fire. The Premier announced earlier this week that representatives from three First Nations had agreed to participate in building access infrastructure to the Ring of Fire, as well as improve entry points to First Nation land. The development is being called Ontario’s largest infrastructure project.

Brown also called for an awareness campaign surrounding the ongoing opioid crisis in Northern Ontario communities. Brown called fentanyl and opioid overdoses one of the worst current public health crises in Ontario.

Brown says legislation which requires the Liberal government to allocate 10 per cent of their government advertising budget to addressing the opioid crisis will be tabled by the Ontario PC caucus.
