These ladies are having a blast

A first for Northern Ontario as an organizing committee led by Dr. Erica Buck and the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts has launched Cycling Without Age.

North Bay is the first Northern Ontarian city to offer free bike rides to less-abled people or the elderly, piloted by volunteers. The initiative allows seniors and the less-abled to experience the thrill of the outdoors on a specially-equipped Trishaw Bike.

Dr. Buck learned about the program after watching a documentary video and immediately sought the support of her colleagues in the emergency medicine department at the local hospital to raise funds. In concert with the Alzheimer’s Society, the dream became a reality.

Now, the ladies pictured above, and many more, may feel the wind in their hair while riding a bicycle once more. Stephanie Leclair, executive director of the local Alzheimer Society says the program will aid clients with dementia, and encourage both mental and physical healthy living.
