The OPP is investigating a house fire that occurred in Mattawa, early in the morning on September 2, that led to the deaths of two people.

At 1:11 am, members of the Mattawa detachment of the OPP, Mattawa Fire Department, and the Papineau-Cameron Township Fire Department responded to the fire. When first responders arrived, police say the house was completely engulfed. The residence contained three separate units and once the fire was extinguished and firefighters could safely enter the premises, the bodies were found.

The Mattawa OPP, the North Bay Crime Unit, and the Office of the Fire Marshal are conducting an investigation into the blaze. Police say the investigation is ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
