The North Bay OPP detachment hit six people with distracted driving offenses. The charges were part of the detachment’s Distracted Driving campaign over the long weekend. The Labour Day weekend also saw higher-than-normal traffic drive through the area. That’s because fatal crashes on Highway 69 and Highway 17 just east of Mattawa resulted in lengthy detours. Police say in total they handled 16 collisions, seven of which took place Friday night and may be connected with the extra traffic.
