UPDATED: One dead after early morning collision with transport in Verner

Update: OPP releasing a few more details about the collision on Highway 17 near Verner that cost the driver of the car their life.

OPP says that at 12:36 a.m., members of the Warren and Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Nipissing Fire Department and the West Nipissing Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 17, Verner.

The investigation has revealed that an eastbound tractor trailer and a westbound vehicle collided head-on. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of two Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) from the North East Region.

Highway 17 was closed until 8:00 a.m., Wednesday. A detour around the collision scene was available.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending the notification of the next of kin.

 

One person is dead following a collision between a car and a tractor trailer.

The collision occurred on Highway 17 in Verner, between Beaudry Road and Gingras Avenue. The highway had been closed for approximately six hours as police investigated and crews cleared away debris. The highway re-opened after tow trucks attended the scene just before 7 am.

OPP confirmed that one victim had perished as a result of the collision early this morning. Police also say that the crash occurred just before 1 am.

Police say they are continuing their investigation and the name of the victim has not been released.
