Trial hears recordings where alleged bribes offered

Audio tapes connected with the Sudbury by-election bribe trial have been played in court.  The recordings feature Sudbury businessman Gerry Lougheed Junior and Patricia Sorbara, the Premier’s former chief of staff.  They’re charged with bribery for allegedly telling former candidate Andrew Olivier he’d be rewarded for not pursuing the Liberal nomination.  One recording has Lougheed’s voice telling Olivier he’s talking to him on behalf of the Premier asking if he would consider stepping aside.   When Olivier hesitates, Lougheed adds he should say what’s in it for him and what will he get for stepping down.   In another recording Sorbara tells Olivier there are many options available to him if drops out of the nomination race.  The trial continues today.
