Canadore students in running for big innovation fund prize

A couple of Canadore students in the welder-fitter program have a shot at winning $15,000.  James Rock, who is from King City just north of Toronto and Brendan Liedtke from Palm Rapids in the Ottawa Valley region, are competing in a provincial innovation fund contest named after former Premier Bill Davis.  Rock is in first year at the college and has a design of a shop broom with re-engineered bristles that don’t miss debris on a shop room floor.  Liedtke, who is graduating, has a concept that allows people to make use of several trailers by using a single frame.

If either student wins, Canadore will help them make their concepts a reality.  In addition to the $15,000 first prize, there’s also a $5,000 cash prize for second place.  Canadore is the only school out of Ontario’s 24 colleges to have more than one finalist in the Top 10 for the William G. Davis contest.  The public can help both students win first and second place by voting online until November 5th.  The address is www.amazing50.ca and once on the site, go to the Innovation Fund tab to cast a vote.   Participants will have to register in order to vote.
