Premier says senior Liberals weren’t told to bribe former candidate

It was the Premier’s turn to take the stand at the Sudbury bribe trial and the Toronto Sun reports she did not tell anyone to bribe a former candidate with a job offer or appointment.  Andrew Olivier was that candidate and was asked to step aside by two senior Liberals so Glenn Thibeault could jump from the federal NDP and represent the Liberals in the Sudbury 2015 by-election.  Gerry Lougheed Junior of Sudbury and Patricia Sorbara, the Premier’s former chief of staff, are charged with bribery under the Ontario Elections Act.  The Sun says Wynne told the court that although she asked both Sorbara and Lougheed to call Olivier, there were no instructions on what to say or to offer him anything. Wynne has wrapped up her testimony and the trial continues today.
