Fall forecast says gorgeous summer days to continue into October

Meteorologist Erin Wenckstern of The Weather Network is forecasting a fall season with average temperatures and normal rainfall amounts.

While summer was rainy and cooler than average across Ontario, the next few weeks into October should remain warm and relatively dry, says Wenckstern, and temperatures will remain above average for the daytime hours.

As a whole, the forecast is expected to change and return closer to seasonal norms. Following the warm period bringing us into October, from October into November we are likely to experience some cooler periods when winter will “show it is just around the corner,” says Wenckstern.

When asked why this time of the year feels more like summer than summer did, Wenskstern replied that when observing transitional periods, such as spring and fall, it is not uncommon for patterns to be “flipped,” across Canada.

Wenckstern says that during the shorter days of summer, these transitional flips often occur. Whereas western Canada experienced hot and dry conditions during spring and summer, now the eastern part of the country is seeing those same types of weather patterns.

Wenckstern laughs when asked when the snow will stay for good. “Unfortunately, it’s a bit too difficult to really answer that,” she says. Snow is so temperature-dependent that the difference between a really cold rain and a snowfall is slight.

The warm period will eventually flip back in the region, bringing the cool shot of air with it. The November period, when systems begin to track across the Great Lakes will bring mixtures of rain, freezing rain, and snow.
