Bears will go door-to-door to collect for Food Bank

All local high schools will take part in the annual fall food drive, but this week the St. Joseph – Scollard Hall Bears will kick things off.

This Thursday, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, students will be knocking on doors looking for donations. Areas that the Bears will cover include West Ferris between Judge Avenue and the water treatment facility, the downtown core from the overpass to High Street, from Oak Street to the bypass, and a section on Trout Lake Road from the bypass to Connaught, including Kingsway, Alexander, Laurentian and McKay.

Students from other schools will be out collecting later in September.

The Food Bank advises that the fall drive is important to replenish shelves. September’s Food of the Month is peanut butter, but the Food Bank will gratefully accept all non-perishable food items as donations.

The Food Bank is also available at their location at 1016 Fisher Street to accept monetary and food donations year-round. The Food Bank is open to serve clients Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:00 am until noon, and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
