Maybe Porter Airlines got the cities confused too?

Tourism officials often say that selling North Bay to southerners is difficult because many confuse North Bay and Thunder Bay.

Porter Airlines, which ceased all operations in North Bay on September 11, is announcing that the company is establishing a crew base in Thunder Bay for January 2018.

Porter says in a release that the base will be the first in Northern Ontario for large commercial airlines. The company says that 40 local jobs will be created for pilots and flight attendants.

“Thunder Bay is a significant Northern Ontario centre that is very important to Porter’s network,” says Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. “The ability to base crew there allows us to hire people who value their northern connections and also want an opportunity to fly larger aircraft to more locations.”
