Well, that driver’s permit has gone up in smoke

North Bay OPP is reporting that at 12:24 am on September 19, officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Highway 17 in North Bay.

Police say a vehicle approached and when the driver’s window was rolled down, an officer “detected the odour of fresh marihuana emanating from the vehicle.” The driver was placed under arrest for the possession of marihuana.

After an investigation the driver, a 32-year-old East Ferris Township man was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams
  • Driving While Under Suspension
  • Class G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied by Licenced Driver

The vehicle the accused was driving has been impounded for 7 days.

The accused was issued an appearance notice and two Provincial Offence Notices with a date to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay in October.
