Southbound switcheroo, but at least that side has been paved

Look on the bright side, the work is half done and now motorists can drive on the newly paved section of highway 11.

Rehabilitation will continue until mid-November on the northbound pair of lanes of Highway 11 between Seymour Street and the Lakeshore Drive/Pinewood Park Drive exit.

Traffic will be re-routed to the southbound lanes with one lane going north and one heading south, separated by yellow pylons along the centre lane. The speed limit, as it was when travel was restricted to the northbound lanes, is 80 kilometres per hour. This set-up is expected to remain in place for most of October.

Lara Cantin, media advisor for the MTO says that work is on schedule and crews will focus on paving the median crossovers necessary for the traffic direction switch.

She says remaining work includes culvert replacements, rehabilitation and paving of northbound lanes and rehabilitation work on ramps at Highway 11/17 interchange.

There will be access to the Highway 17 ramps at most times. Traffic travelling north will have access, as northbound traffic will be switched back to northbound lanes south of the Highway 17 ramp.

However, Cantin says the contractor will have alternating Highway 17 ramp closures during some nights in October scheduled from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. When the contractor plans to close the ramps the OPP and local emergency services will be advised.

“The contractor will only have one of the two accesses to Highway 17 closed at a time. In addition, they will only close one of the two accesses from Highway 17 to Highway 11 at one time. During these closures, traffic will be diverted to Lakeshore Drive or Seymour Street in order to change directions and access the ramps that are open,” clarifies Cantin.
