Thieves prove that ‘nothing runs like a Deere’

North Bay Police Service reporting several criminal incidents.

A break-in overnight into September 16 at a business on the 1200 block Seymour Street has resulted in the theft of four John Deere tractors and five Toro snow blowers.

Police are warning the public to check American currency, particularly $50 bills for authenticity. The bills have been passed at several stores in the city this past week, say police, who advise that the colouring and texture are noticeably different from a real bill.

A 34-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with several offences in relation to a failure to remain motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Ski Club Road and O’Brien Street. At 5:25 pm on September 21, police say officers responded to the collision.

One of the vehicles thought to be involved in the crash was located on Chapais Street, a short distance away from the scene and had been reported stolen by Peel Regional Police. Police say witnesses assisted them in apprehending the driver, who was by then on foot.

The man is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, failing to stop at a scene of an accident, and refuse to provide a breath sample.

The man has been held for a bail hearing.
