Industry expert says 6,000 pilots needed in Canada right now

A program designed to enhance career opportunities for students training to be fixed wing pilots is coming to Canadore College.

Ottawa Aviation Services Flight Centre Inc. (OAS) president and CEO Cedric Paillard says that there is a need for 6,000 pilots in Canada and 250,000 globally due to a large cohort of retiring baby boomer pilots.

OAS will partner with Canadore and Essential Helicopters to deliver the flight training program of the two-year commercial fixed wing pilot program. OAS will offer its Canadian Integrated Airline Transport License program. The program, approved by Transport Canada, trains pilots with skills and proficiencies to operate as a co-pilot on multi-crew, multi-engine airplanes in commercial air transportation.

Graduates from the program will earn interviews with one of OAS’s domestic partners, such as Jazz Aviation LP or Porter Airlines and will be given advanced standing to write Airline Transport Pilot exams prior to graduation.
