Lakers soccer teams come up just short in Riley Gallo Cup

The Nipissing University Lakers soccer teams dropped close decisions to their rivals from Laurentian University Wednesday evening.

The third and fourth legs of the Riley Gallo Cup, for soccer supremacy between the Highway 17 corridor schools, go to Laurentian on the strength of a 1-0 Vees win in the women’s game and a 2-1 triumph in the men’s tilt. The Vees take the Riley Gallo Cup and Laurentian also leads in the 705 Challenge Cup, contested among various varsity sports between the two.

The women will look to regroup as they prepare to take on the Carleton Ravens at noon on Saturday and the Ottawa Gee Gees, also at noon on Sunday. Both matches will be held at Cundari Field at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall.

The men have a single game versus Carleton, Saturday at 2:15 pm, also at Cundari Field.
