‘It is time for those who can to do more’

Vic Fedeli spoke candidly about watching dear friends of his die in vastly different manners

Fedeli spoke about a friend who passed away some 20 years ago in conditions that “saddened him.” Recently, another family friend “made the transition,” as Fedeli put, in a much more dignified way while in hospice care.

Fedeli, the MPP for Nipissing, and his wife Patty have made a personal family donation of $150,000 to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice, Friday.

“There is a new way to die,” says Fedeli, in explaining his family’s generosity, adding that watching his friends die made him realize how important the creation of a hospice is to our community.

“There are many wonderful and worthy organizations in need of funds, but for Patty and me, the time has come for a Hospice in North Bay,” says Fedeli, adding, “It is time for those who can to do more.”

The Fedeli family contribution brings the fundraising total to $3.27 million, according to committee member Dave Mendicino, with decisions on several government grants imminent.

Chair of the board for the hospice Mathilde Bazinet says the committee is nearing its capital fundraising goal of $6.2 million and will continue fundraising aggressively this fall.
