Sexually explicit Snapchat scheme snuffed out

OPP Mattawa Detachment reporting that they have arrested and charged a 19-year-old man with several offences related to images and videos they say were sent by the social media app Snapchat.

As a result of the OPP investigation, the man has been charged with the following:

  • Invitation to Sexual Touching Under 16 Years of Age
  • Make Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Person Under 16 Years of Age
  • Luring a Person Under 16 Years of Ace by Means of Telecommunication
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

On September 24, police received a call about a person asking young girls to send naked photos of themselves using Snapchat.

The OPP began an investigation into the allegation and located numerous victims who were sent sexually explicit photos and videos over Snapchat.

The name of the accused is being withheld for the privacy of the young victims. The man is being held for a  bail hearing on October 5 at the Ontario Court of Justice North Bay.
