Future of North Bay’s Sears in serious doubt

Sears Canada is announcing that it will seek to begin liquidating all of its remaining stores after no buyer for the company could be found.

The move would close all of the stores unaffected by June closures, including the North Bay location. More than 12,000 jobs would be lost by the move.

Initially, the North Bay location was spared when some 60 stores closed in June. Sears Canada has been in court-approved creditor protection since.

Sears Canada will seek court approval to begin liquidation sales that would run 10 to 14 weeks beginning later this month.
