Call it Bambi’s revenge

A Sturgeon Falls man who fired across Highway 539 at a deer on private property has been hit with $4,000 in fines.

The man has also received a two-year hunting suspension from Justice of the Peace Monique Mechefske, who heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sturgeon Falls last month.

Guilty pleas to discharging a firearm across a highway and trespassing for the purpose of hunting led to $2,000 fines for each offence.

Court heard that in November 2015, an MNRF conservation officer and a canine unit investigated a report that after pulling over on the highway, a deer had been shot from the shoulder of the road, leading to the charges.
