Opposition parties react to Auditor General report involving electricity

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the Auditor General is helping to prove the Progressive Conservative party contention that the Liberal’s Fair Hydro Plan was nothing but a re-election ploy.  The Liberals say the plan reduces hydro rates.  But Fedeli, who has started to call the program the Unfair Hydro Plan, says Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk has found that the plan adds an extra $4 billion Ontarians have to pay.  Fedeli says it’s all because the Liberals used incorrect accounting practices when recording the Fair Hydro Plan numbers.  Fedeli says Lysyk concludes that the government’s proposed accounting methods are wrong.  She goes on to say if these methods are used, it makes the province’s future budgets and future consolidated financial statements unreliable.  Fedeli says this shows the hydro plan is a sham and its real intent is to benefit the Liberal government as it seeks re-election next June.   The New Democrats have also reacted to Lysyk’s report.   Energy critic Peter Tabuns says the Wynne Liberals used accounting tricks to cover up just how bad their Fair Hydro Plan really is.  Tabuns says Ontario residents and businesses are reminded each month when they open their hydro bills that they’re paying too much for electricity.  He adds Premier Kathleen Wynne is out of touch and says it’s like she never opens her hydro bill.
