The Village, Canadore College’s unique collaboration of health, wellness, and eventually, seniors’ housing is on track for completion of the first phase in 2018.
Canadore says the project will integrate Indigenous, Eastern and Western healing and wellness practices all in one facility.
Phase I will include the completion of construction on the health and wellness building. The above ground structure will be built over the next four to six weeks at the main campus.
Phase II will include the live-in residence for seniors, up to 144 units. The residence will provide much-needed seniors’ housing in the region; deliver acute and primary medical care; offer cultural, social, vocational, recreational and spiritual events; incorporate access to a safe mobility clinic; and also include an on-site sweat lodge, healing circle and esthetics studio, according to representatives from the school.
Phase I is valued at $20 million, with $5.63 million coming from the federal government, $800,000 from the province. The project has a fundraising goal of $5 million from non-government sources.
