Mattawa OPP is reporting that on November 12, at 11:20 pm, an officer from the detachment was patrolling Highway 17 in Calvin Township.
The officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Radar confirmed the vehicle speed at 175 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. The officer initiated a traffic stop and also found the driver to have consumed alcohol before driving.
The same driver had been ticketed for driving a vehicle at a high rate of speed in the same location on November 1.
A 20-year-old Pembroke man has been charged with the following:
- Stunt Driving contrary
- Novice Driver – blood alcohol content above zero
The accused has been issued a 3-day driver’s licence suspension for a blood alcohol content in the warn range, contrary to Section 48 of the HTA and another 7-day driver’s licence suspension for stunt driving. His vehicle has also been impounded for 7 days.
The accused has been released on a summons with a date to attend Provincial Offences court on December 8.
