A 19-year-old Mansfield, Que., man is facing a fine of $490 and six demerit points (upon conviction) after a traffic complaint, Tuesday.
A caller advised Mattawa OPP that a driver on Highway 17 in Papineau-Cameron Township had been travelling at a high rate of speed, passed numerous vehicles that were stopped behind a school bus, and then passed the stopped school bus which had its overhead red lights activated.
The vehicle was located a short time later and the driver has been issued a ticket for fail to stop for school bus – overtaking.
The law states that every driver on a highway, approaching a stopped school bus from the rear that has its overhead red signal-lights flashing, shall stop at least 20 metres before reaching the school bus and shall not proceed until the bus moves or the overhead red signal-lights have stopped flashing.
Police say keep kids safe by stopping for the red overhead lights on the school bus.
