Police Chief says ‘extremely slippery’ conditions a major factor in number of recent collisions

North Bay Police Chief Shawn Devine says that the force has been busy with motor vehicle collisions recently and says that road conditions have been dangerous.

With 18 motor vehicle collisions reported since the snow started falling Friday evening, North Bay Police have been stretched thin in the area of traffic enforcement, says Devine. He adds that resources get stretched with priority calls and traffic enforcement sometimes suffers as a result.

Devine says that he called his wife after his commute Monday morning to warn her about “extremely slippery” conditions.

The rash of motor vehicle collisions is not solely to blame on the challenging road conditions. Devine says that it’s time to put the winter tires on, reduce speeds, and leave plenty of room to stop.
