Man foiled by forensics four months after the crime

On July 20, the OPP Powassan Detachment received a call about a break and enter that had occurred at a residence in Powassan.

The residents had come home to find their door pried open and numerous pieces of jewellery missing. Officers from the Powassan Detachment attended and conducted an investigation. A Scenes of Crime Officer also attended to examine the scene.

Evidence was located at the scene and was seized for forensic examination by the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit.

As a result of the police investigation, a 42-year-old West Nipissing man has been arrested and charged with:

  • Break and Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
