Organizers say that the $22,000 plus raised at the 65th Annual Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon on the weekend will go to Christmas hampers that will include food, presents, and more for families in need of support this Christmas.

The telethon features local musicians and artists and is operated on a volunteer basis. Broadcast Television and Video Production students from Canadore College also donate their time to the telethon.

The event aired Saturday but the Lions will continue to accept donations with the hope of inching towards total contributions of $25,000.

Organizers say that the need for assistance at this time of year seems to grow with 350 families and up to 500 children benefitting from the telethon.
