Amendment a game-changer for Cassellholme redevelopment

It’s not often that the government and opposition can put their differences aside, but Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says that it was too important not to.

It will have to pass a third reading, but a legislative amendment aimed at allowing long-term care homes to arrange their own financing for redevelopment has gained all-party support.

Fedeli says that the three major parties put faith in each other to do the right thing when it came to the amendment.

Without it, the City of North Bay would have been on the hook for a large portion of the cost.

The $60 million Cassellholme project will get $30 million from the province, while Cassellholme’s board may now borrow the remainder.

The Cassellholme project is tied to seven other municipality groups and their approval of the motion. If the member municipalities concur, construction could begin as soon as spring.
