Lacking funding, Patrick 4 Life to end

Patrick 4 Life will come to a close.

This according to a North Bay Nugget interview with the organization’s chairman of the board.

The program brought AIDS awareness and education to the masses and had been funded by North Bay’s four school boards and other community groups.

That funding has become less reliable and the Partici-Patrick program that ran for more than a decade and saw more than 20,000 students take part will also end.

The initiative was named in honour of North Bay’s Patrick Fortin who contracted HIV as a child through tainted blood and died as a young man of AIDS.

Patrick’s wish had been for zero AIDS anywhere, and while Patrick 4 Life has not rid the world of AIDS, the movement has gone a long way to educating and removing the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

Resources from the program can now be found on the AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area website. The funds that Patrick 4 Life has raised will be transferred to the North Bay and Area Community Foundation for use by those wishing to continue AIDS education.
