Summer in the Park will move, have new leadership

Summer in the Park will have a new home and some new blood at the helm for 2018.

Entrepreneurs and Chamber of Commerce members Geoff Richardson and Thomas Brown will co-chair the event, held on the Civic Holiday weekend.

Councillor Derek Shogren, speaking on behalf of the 2017 Summer in the Park committee, says that some new leadership with fresh ideas is welcomed. Shogren also confirmed that the 2018 event will be held at Thomson Park and Memorial Gardens.

The 2017 event lost nearly $60,000 but Shogren says the economic spin-off that totals as much as $3 million dollars makes the weekend a success locally regardless of wristband profits.

Shogren adds that overhead can be kept down with the location switch, as concert insurance, a stage, and trailers for talent will no longer be necessary thanks to the amenities at Memorial Gardens.
