Deputy Mayor does not expect any surprises before budget passes

Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette says that City Council will vote on the 2018 operating budget tonight and the tax levy stands at 1.31 per cent.

Forgette adds that may not be the exact amount that translates to property tax bills as there are a lot of other factors at play, such as the MPAC property assessment.

Getting the budget passed before the calendar year begins has been a goal of Forgette’s as it gives staff the opportunity to prudently plan ahead instead of part-way through the year.

Does the deputy mayor anticipate any surprises at Thursday’s dedicated budget meeting of the whole?

Forgette says as long as the majority of Council votes in favour, that (1.31 per cent levy) is what will be passed.
