Grandparents sued: Mother will cut off access to granddaughter if they don’t pay child support

CBC News is reporting a North Bay couple is being sued for $760 in monthly payments in support of a 10-year-old child.

The catch? Conrad Hunter and Denise Deforge are the girl’s grandparents.

They will appear in court tomorrow where the girl’s mother will also seek $47,000 in retroactive support, going back to when the girl’s father, Hunter and Deforge’s son, died in an accident.

The mother’s lawyer believes they have a case as the grandparents have acted in a guardianship role in the past. The two were also included in a custody dispute between their son and the girl’s mother, unbeknownst to them, they tell CBC.

Hunter and Deforge acknowledge that their son told them about the court decision which could legally open them up to support payments.

The grandparents say the mother has told them she will deny them access to their granddaughter if they do not pay.
