Council resolves to bring rail back

A motion unanimously passed at the most recent City Council meeting pledges “non-monetary” support for the Northern and Eastern Ontario Rail Network (NEORN).

NEORN advocates for the return of passenger rail service to those regions and lobbies Queen’s Park and Parliament Hill to that end.

Councillor Mac Bain brought forth the motion and was seconded by Councillor Derek Shogren. Bain was lauded by Mayor Al McDonald for the brevity of the document.

The motion touts passenger rail as essential to Northern Ontario when it comes to developing industry, tourism, and access to health care.
